Capture changelog

Capture 3.4 is out. This release is all fixes: edits that didn't stick, exports that finished too early, widgets that opened the wrong capture, and two crashes.

What's fixed

• Fixed removing a date from a capture not saving.
• Fixed a capture without text losing its date when you split it.
• Fixed removing a link from a capture also removing parts of other links.
• Fixed renaming a list leaving some of its captures under the old name.
• Fixed links, phone numbers, and attachments missing when you export straight from the editor.
• Fixed a capture showing as exported when the other app didn't open, or, on Mac, when Calendar didn't save the event.
• Mail and Evernote no longer offer to send images and files on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, where they can't receive them.

• Fixed widgets for lists with spaces or symbols in their names not opening the list.

Capture 3.3 is out. Capture now turns sideways on iPhone, fits its layout to the space it has, and makes good use of iPhone Duo. This entry includes the fixes from 3.3.1.

Landscape on iPhone

Capture now works in landscape on iPhone. Turn your phone and the list and editor turn with it. In landscape, Capture uses a single column and leaves out the empty-screen messages, so your captures get the room.

Layouts for iPhone Duo and any window size

Capture now picks its layout from the space it has, not from the device you hold. When there's room, the list and the open capture sit side by side. When the window is narrow, you get one column.

Stand iPhone Duo on its lower half and an open capture splits at the fold. The capture stays on the top half. Share, Copy, and your export destinations sit on the bottom half, with a button to add a new destination.

Everything else

• The welcome tour now fits on wide screens and stays on the same slide when you rotate your phone.
• Fixed a hang in the welcome tour on iOS 27.
• Fixed Siri not using your captures to answer personal questions on iOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27.
• Roadmap vote counts load again.
• Text in an open capture rewraps when you resize the window.
• Files that aren't images now show on a plain background.
• Fixed text colors on selected rows in the list.
• X post previews now hide the website label when you turn off creation dates.
• On Mac, list rows have a little more space above and below.

Capture 3.2 is out. It's a small release. Voice notes can now save themselves when you stop talking, Shortcuts and Siri can add text to the top of a capture, and the Capture CLI can work with attachments.

Save voice notes after a pause

Turn on Save after pause in Voice Notes settings and you no longer have to tap Save. When you stop talking, Capture ends the recording and saves the capture. Pick how long it waits, from 2.5 seconds up to 12.5 seconds. In agent mode, Capture waits for the agent to finish and then saves what it offers. The option is off by default.

Prepend to Capture in Shortcuts and Siri

The new Prepend to Capture action adds text to the start of a capture you already have. It's the counterpart to Append to Capture, and works in Shortcuts and with Siri.

Attachments in the Capture CLI

The Capture CLI can now read and save attachments. When you get a capture, it lists the attachments, and a new command outputs an attachment so you can save it anywhere. You can also add a file to a new or existing capture. Scripts and AI agents can now work with the images and files in your captures.

Everything else

• A full swipe on Move to list now opens the list picker straight away.
• The list picker on iPhone and iPad has a cleaner layout and a New list button that sits with your lists.

Capture 3.1 is out on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. It brings a floating editor to Vision Pro, more control over the keyboard, and better previews for the links you save most.

Pop the editor out into its own small window and capture without the full app in your space. When you want your captures back, dock it again.

Choose when the keyboard shows up

A new setting lets you pick how the keyboard behaves when you open Capture. Automatic keeps the current behavior, Always opens the keyboard every time, and Never leaves it closed until you tap into the editor.

Richer link previews for Threads, TikTok and Reddit

Links to posts on Threads, TikTok and Reddit now show a proper preview, so you can tell what you saved at a glance.

Open Capture with a keyboard shortcut on Mac

You can now set a global keyboard shortcut that opens Capture from anywhere on your Mac. The menu bar menu shows the shortcuts you've recorded for opening Capture, Quick Capture and Voice Notes.

Everything else

• The share sheet opens faster.
• The app badge now updates for captures you make outside the app, such as from Apple Watch, Shortcuts or your other devices.
• When you ask Siri to open a capture, Capture now opens it for you.
• Link previews on the Mac now use the full width of the row.
• Fixed Safari full-page screenshots being saved as a generic file.
• Fixed a crash that could occur when copying a capture with an attachment.
• Fixed a crash on the Mac when archiving or deleting a capture with a swipe.
• Fixed a crash at launch on macOS 15.

Capture 3.1.1

On iOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27, an iCloud sync could erase the settings of your export destinations. Capture 3.1.1 now keeps these settings safe from sync, and copies over the settings that are still there when you open the app. If a destination already lost its settings, you find it in a new section of Export settings. Delete it there, then add it again.

Capture 3.0 is out on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro, built for this year's releases across all of them. Most of what's new happens outside the app: Siri can now work with your captures, and everything you save shows up in Spotlight.

Siri AI

Capture fully supports Siri AI on iOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27. Ask Siri to find a capture, create a new one, or change one you already have, without opening the app first.

Agent mode for voice notes

A voice note used to give you a transcription and nothing else. Turn on agent mode and you can talk through several thoughts in one go, and Capture separates them and files them for you. It runs on Apple Intelligence, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro. The first time you use it, Capture explains what it does, and after that it remembers your choice.

Spotlight indexing

Your captures and lists are now indexed by Spotlight on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro. Search for them from the Home Screen or from Spotlight on the Mac and open them straight in Capture. Other system integrations can reach them too.

Everything else

• Grid display mode now uses a two-column layout on iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and in iPhone Mirroring, with the capture pushed into the detail side.
• Richer link previews for some sites, including compact excerpts for posts on X.
• The keyboard stays out of the way while you're browsing captures instead of opening on its own.
• Attachments and link previews have rounder corners and a hairline border.
• The Capture CLI now has a help command.
• Fixed list reordering not working when two lists share a name.
• Fixed an empty editor sometimes refusing to take new text.
• Fixed link metadata failing to load on older versions of macOS.
• Fixed the editor background flickering when detected data appears while you type.
• On Apple Watch, the same app rebuilt for watchOS 27.

Capture 2.16 is out. This release adds five more places to send your captures, brings Capture to Ukrainian, and makes it smoother to add several thoughts in a row.

Five new export destinations

You can now send captures to Google Calendar, Amazing Marvin, Zotero, Tana, and Workflowy. Turn a thought into an event, task, research item, or nested note without manually moving it between apps.

Capture is now available in Ukrainian across the app, widgets, Shortcuts, and share extension.

Keep capturing from the keyboard

Submit a capture with Return and the keyboard comes straight back, making it faster to add several captures in a row.

• Fixed image exports to mymind.
• On Mac, you can now use Command-click and Shift-click to select multiple captures in grid view.
• Fixed the capture list sliding beneath the navigation bar on older versions of macOS.

Capture 2.15 is out. This release lets you give Capture a new look, send captures directly to more connected services, and start a voice capture from more places.

Make Capture yours

On iPhone, you can now choose the Default theme, switch to a clean Minimal theme, or select your own custom color. Your choice applies across the app, widgets, and share extension.

Seven connected export destinations

Capture can now send your notes and links directly to Notion, Supernotes, Readwise, Reader, Raindrop.io, Mem, and mymind. Add the service in Export Settings, enter its access details, and send captures without an extra copy-and-paste step.

Start voice capture faster

Open Voice Capture from a Home Screen widget, Control Center, or the Capture app icon. Capture opens directly into voice recording, so you can save a thought with fewer steps.

Capture in Raycast

The new Raycast integration lets you create, search, update, archive, and delete captures from your Mac. You can also capture clipboard content, create lists, and use Capture from Raycast AI.

Everything else

• Right-to-left text and mixed-direction text now align and preview correctly.
• Moving captures out of Archive now restores them automatically, including bulk moves.
• Drag and drop works more reliably in Capture on Mac.
• The Safari extension now uses the same editing flow as the share extension.
• Fixed App Store links being saved as broken images.
• Fixed list labels remaining visible after a capture was removed from a list.
• Improved the setup and reliability of connected exports, including mymind.

Capture 2.14 is out. This release makes it faster to capture the web page in front of you, easier to send captures straight where they belong, and more flexible to browse, organize, and automate everything you have saved.

Capture from Safari

Capture now includes a Safari extension, so you can save the web page you are viewing with one click. It is a quick way to turn the current tab into a capture without switching apps or copying the link first.

Export without saving first

Long-press Submit to send what you are writing directly to an export destination. You can capture something, choose where it should go, and skip adding it to your inbox when it is just passing through.

New display modes

Choose how your captures are shown: list, compact, or grid. Use the regular list when you want more context, compact mode when you want to scan more items at once, and grid when your captures are more visual.

More ways to organize and automate

Type # while writing to quickly choose a list, once the shortcut is enabled in Preferences. Shortcuts also gets new actions for creating, updating, moving, archiving, and managing captures, so more of Capture can fit into your automations.

Everything else

• New export destinations for Claude, Instapaper, and Messages.
• Things exports can now choose when to-dos should appear.
• Capture now detects phone numbers.
• On Apple Watch, Double Tap can start a capture.
• The share sheet can now close immediately after submitting.
• Fixed duplicate lists appearing in Shortcuts when choosing a capture list.

Capture 2.13 is out. This release puts one important capture right on your Home Screen, adds new ways to split and sort what you've captured, and makes it simple to take all your data with you.

A Single Capture widget

Keep one capture that matters right on your Home Screen. Add the new Single Capture widget, pick the capture you want to keep in view, and it's always a glance away: a list you're working through, a note you keep coming back to, or a reminder you don't want to lose.

Split captures

The natural companion to merging. When a single capture has grown to hold a few different things (some text, a link, an image), you can now split it into separate captures in one step, so each piece can stand on its own.

Export all your data

A new option in Settings exports everything you've captured at once, bundled into a single zip file. It's the easiest way to keep a backup or move your captures somewhere else, all in one file.

• Sort any list by name, creation date, or modification date.
• Drag and drop images and attachments straight into the editor.
• Faster link previews throughout the app.
• On Mac, open a capture in its own pinned window with ⇧⌘P.
• On Mac, Capture now hides its Dock icon after you close the last window.
• Fixed times you write in a note being removed when it's edited.
• Sharing several images at once now imports all of them, instead of only the first.
• Fixed "message:" and email links being turned into broken links.

Capture 2.12 is out. This release adds a big batch of new places to send your captures, a way to combine several into one, and a couple of features that make Capture feel right at home on the Mac.

13 new export destinations

You can now send captures straight to 13 more apps: Linear, Gmail, Godspeed, GoodTask, Calendar 366, Remind Me Faster, Notebooks, Paper, Textastic, Opener, Noted, Octarine, and Everlog. Whatever your setup looks like, there's a good chance Capture now fits into it.

Merge captures

Select several captures and combine them into a single one. It's the fastest way to pull a handful of loose thoughts together into one note.

Paste to Capture on Mac

On the Mac, you can now paste text, links, and images directly into Capture to instantly create a capture. Copy something anywhere, paste it in, and you're done.

Control Center widget on Mac

The Control Center widget is now available on macOS, so a new capture is always one click away.
