Use Capture as a fast inbox before an idea becomes a note in Day One. Create a Day One journal entry from text, a link, or an image, with optional journal and tag routing.
A quick capture workflow for Day One

Write or share the thought into Capture while it is fresh.

Save the Capture without stopping to organize the destination.
- 03Send to Day One
Use your configured export action when the capture is ready.
What gets sent to Day One
- Text includes Capture’s selected date when applicable and becomes the entry.
- Links join the fetched title and URL.
- Images are copied to the clipboard and imported through Day One’s imageClipboard option.
Set up Day One in Capture
- Open Capture Settings, choose Export, then tap Configure if this is your first destination or Add new destination.
- Choose Day One from the app picker.
- Install Day One, then optionally enter a journal name and comma-separated tags.
- Review the destination name and icon, then tap Save.

This destination appears only for content it can receive.

Example: a quick capture to Day One
Configure Journal as “Work” and tags as “idea,capture”. Exporting a product idea creates a tagged Day One entry in the Work journal.
Send the capture
- Open an existing Capture and choose its configured Day One export action.
- Capture hands off only the supported types listed above. Complete any confirmation or compose screen shown by Day One.
Limits and troubleshooting
Limits
- Arbitrary files are unsupported; only images are accepted.
- Image export temporarily uses the system clipboard before Day One opens.
- Capture does not validate journal names.
Troubleshooting
- If an image is missing, retry after granting any clipboard prompt and keep Day One installed.
- If the entry lands elsewhere, verify the journal name exactly.
